Verbes pronominaux / Reflexive verbs

Reflexive verbs (verbes pronominaux) are verbs where the subject performs the action on itself. They’re identified by the pronoun se before the infinitive and are common in daily routines.

Body Parts: Use Definite Articles

With reflexive verbs, use le/la/les (not possessives) for body parts:

• Je me lave les mains. — I wash my hands.
• Elle se brosse les dents. — She brushes her teeth.

Negation

Ne goes before the reflexive pronoun, pas after the verb:

• Je ne me lève pas tôt. — I don’t get up early.
• Elle ne se couche pas tard. — She doesn’t go to bed late.
